When we said early this week, we we're not expecting it to be this early. Just minutes ago eager testers were surprised as Windows Vista build 5472 was released on Microsoft Connect.

As usual, the build is available for both x64 (which is approximately 3.5GB in size) and x86 (which is just over 2.5GB).

The download is available to connect testers only and is not publicly available. Testers have been told that 5342 keys will work with this build and no new keys are required.

Many of the people that have seen previous screenshots of upcoming builds have been wanting to get their hands on the wallpaper shown within them. You can now download that wallpaper Here courtesy of Utakz' Blog.

A screenshot gallery of the new build will be available within the next couple of hours.

« Diminishing the Vista Myths: Part 1!Windows Vista Interim Build 5472.5.winmain_idx01.060713-1900 Released Today!
Windows Vista Build 5472.5.winmain_idx01.060713-1900 has just been released to the Vista Technical Beta testers as of 10:50 AM PST/1:50 AM EST. The funny thing about this release is this is truely the 6th revision of 5472.winmain. What do I mean by that? I mean that this is actually 5472.6.winmain_idx01, but mislabeled as 5472.5.winmain_idx01 due to the team forgetting to up the revision number. This new interim will bring a host of new bits for you to enjoy, but Microsoft are more deeply focused on performance enhancements with this release. Below I have made a list of some of changes you will find in this interim release:

1. Aero Assessment after installation - This displays changing information about key features of Windows Vista.
2. The Task Manager now links to the Resource Monitor, where you’ll find that on the peformance tab you get a button for a more comprehensive resource monitor.
3. Sidebar updates - The 'Add Gadgets' window has been updated slightly since the last interim and this build includes a few new gadgets, not to mention updated versions of the ones you've grown accustom to know. Below is a list of the gadgets you will find in this build:
* Calculator Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* Calendar Gadget - This gadget is new, although it is more than likely broken in this build.
* Clock Gadget - Slightly updated since 5456. Now has different looking text for each clock, rather than bold text.
* Contacts Gadget - This is a new gadget which allows you to view and search through your Windows Mail, and Outlook, contacts.
* CPU Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* Currency Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* Notes Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* PicturePuzzle Gadget - This gadget has been Slightly updated since 5456. The only change I truely see is the border of the gadget has changed to a wood finish.
* RecycleBin Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* RSSFeeds Gadget - This gadget has changed quite a bit since 5456, but don't get to acquainted with it for this iteration of it is already out of date.
* SlideShow Gadget - This gadget appears to be identical to the one included in 5456.
* Stocks Gadget - This gadget has changed the most drastically since 5456. It allows you to see up to 3 symbols at a time while it is on the sidebar itself and it also allows you to move the symbol's around within itself. While on the desktop, you can see 3 values at a time and scroll down to see other values that you have added to your list via the 'Add a stock symbol' search box. The major change is the GUI for this gadget.

Since the build has been released, I'm going to go ahead and drop the new Windows Vista wallpaper that you will find in 5472. It goes by the name of 'img24.jpg' and you can find it HERE. If you are a Technical Beta tester and are looking to download this build, then you can find the x86 and x64 flavours HERE for download via the file transfer manager.
