Intel has just revealed that it plans to call its upcoming chipset simply P55. It is quite logical as P55 is covering the mid range market and it is set to replace the quite successful P45.

Ibex peak, now P55, is there to support Lynnfield quad core CPUs and we are quite sure that this one should support Havendale dual core Nehalem's with integrated IGP.

This should be intel's first single chip chipset that will help take the cost down of the platform. The chipset supports socket 1160 and some technologies including Intel Active Management Technology 6.0, Intel Anti-Theft Technology, Intel Matrix Storage Technology and Intel Remote PC Assist Technology.

The chipset and this new cheaper Nehalem should be out in Q3 2009 with a wider availability in Q4 2009, so roughly a year from now.

P55 LGA1160平台的“Ibex Peak”

即将推出的X58虽然也是5系列芯片组，但仅用于高端LGA1366平台，支持Bloomfield Core i7系列处理器。
P55主要搭配代号Lynnfield的新架构四核心处理器，也支持代号Havendale的双核心处理器。这两种处理器分别定于2009年第三季度和2010年第一季度发布，后者还会集成图形核心，不过由于定位较低，Intel可能会以P55的精简版本(P53?)与其搭配。
由于Lynnfield会整合内存控制器、PCI-E 2.0控制器等原本属于北桥芯片的模块，因此Ibex Peak P55的功能会大大简化，也将成为Intel的第一款单芯片设计芯片组，拥有原本位于南桥内的输入输出模块，并支持主动管理技术AMT 6.0、防盗技术ATT、RAID矩阵存储技术、远程PC协助技术。

P55 supports both Lynnfield 45nm Nehalem-based quad-cores and IGP dual-core Nehalem codenamed Havendale. It looks that Lynnfield will launch in Q3 2009, while Havendale will slip to Q1 2010. The chipset supports one PCIe 16X or two eight-speed PCIe cards and it is a single chip architecture. It is pin compatible with future Intel 5 series chipsets, but we are not sure if it’s also compatible with the X58.

LGA 1366 for the high-end Core i7, LGA 775 for Core 2 Quad/Duo, Celeron and Pentium dual core, Socket 437 for Atom and the soon to come socket H, LGA 1160 which is set to replace LGA 775 at a later stage.
