Closer than you think, Q1
AMD plans to unveil its 65nm K10 tri core CPUs in Q1 2008. We suspect this will take time latest at Cebit as samples are already finished. The tri core K10 is called Toliman and it will fit into the AM2+ socket and use 2MB L3 memory.
Obviously, it will have a much more attractive price than its quad core cousins. However, in spite of lacking one core its performance should be perform quite similar to that of the quad core, except in rendering and some rather specialized applications.
This tri core chip should show its face ahead of the dual core version which is still scheduled for Q2 2008. We also hope that AMD plans to increase the frequencies in the near future, as we need faster chips than 2.3GHz nowadays.
